Getting to Know your Sacral Chakra

Did you know that there are specific gongs that can be played to affect and balance each chakra? They are also used to clear and cleanse the chakras.

Introduction: Each chakra is like a spiral galaxy, inter connected like a web to the universal energy, through our energy body, emotional body, physical body and spiritual body where communications can made to achieve higher states of consciousness.

The different chakras correspond to certain nerve bundles and major organs in your body.  They are located in the proximity of endocrinal glands.

Our thinking and our health are inextricably linked with the flow of energy through the chakras, which makes an understanding of them important. To function at their best, your chakras need to stay open, or balanced. When most people talk about unhealthy chakras, they’re referring to “blocked” or deficient chakras that restrict energy flow. If they get blocked, you may experience physical or emotional symptoms related to a particular chakra.

It is also possible for one or two of your chakras to be dominant over the rest of your chakras. There are various reasons as to why some chakras are stronger than the others. Upbringing and childhood is one major factor, and some others are; past intimate relationships, social conditioning and environment exposure and substance abuse. The difference varies from individual to individual depending on the life experiences.

Healing your chakras can give you a better physical health as a healthy chakra stimulates the essential hormones into the blood stream on a regular basis aiding your body’s functionality.

How does the Healing Sound of the Gongs Rebalance the Chakras?

We are a bio-chemical / electro-magnetic energy system.  Our thoughts and emotions trigger various frequencies of electro-magnetic impulses which interact with our bio-chemistry. Negative thoughts and emotions set up rigid energy patterns within our system.  These patterns are deviations from our natural, true energy patterns. They interrupt and disrupt our natural frequencies and prevent the natural healing accessible within each and everyone of us.

The gongs reset the chakras.  Using the power of sound frequencies the chakras are brought back into a state of balance and harmony through the process of entrainment.

Second Chakra – Sacral Chakra – Orange (Swadisthana )

The second chakra, (Sacral Chakra), in Sanskrit  called swadisthana,"where your being is established." "Swa" means self and "adhishthana" means established.) or the sacral chakra, is the second primary chakra according to Hindu Tantrism. This chakra is said to be blocked by fear, especially the fear of death.

Where is the 2nd chakra and what does it do?

·        The sacral chakra, or Swadhisthana, is the second of the body's seven main chakras, or energy centres. It forms when we are between the ages of 8 and 14 and just beginning to develop a sense of self.

·        This energy centre sits about 2 inches below the belly button and is all about creativity, sexual energy, and relating to our emotions and the emotions of others.

·        The Sacral Chakra governs the sexual organs, Ovaries /Testicles, bladder, bowel and lower intestine.

·        It controls our emotions and response to fear being most closely associated with the adrenal glands. It also balances water in the body.

·        Close neighbour to the Muladhara chakra or root chakra, it is one step removed from preoccupations about survival, safety, and instinctual sensory perception of the world. It allows us to creatively deal with what emerges from our experience and develop a response informed by our emotional patterns and intelligence.

How do I know if my 2nd Chakra is blocked?

When someone is stuck in their sacral chakra, they struggle with being ruled by their emotions or the opposite of this, which is feeling numb or out of touch. There's also a correlation to sexual desire (or the lack thereof) at this level. Creativity and pleasure are both found at this energetic level.

Sacral Shutdown
Many are caught in a cycle of closing our “lower” chakras (a.k.a. our connection to Mother Earth and the body), as we focus on higher ones. This cycle often looks like:

PHASE 1: Make unconscious choices around sex, the body, and pleasure for a certain period of our lives (i.e. eating unconsciously, using sex for self worth). This phase is often impacted by everything from sexual trauma to eating disorders, which affect our ability to receive joy and pleasure.

PHASE 2: We find comfort as we begin our spiritual paths, manifesting in attempts to “transcend” the body with meditation, mantras, and other external spiritual tools (astrology, tarot etc.)

PHASE 3: Then we may begin to wonder, why do I still not feel whole? Why am still not able to experience pleasure, and feel Joy on a regular basis?

Relationship to Self and Others:

This Chakra is about feeling and sexuality. It represents our connection and ability to accept others and new experiences. It holds the basic needs for sexuality, creativity, intuition, and self-worth. It is also about emotions and friendliness, it is the seat of our creativity, confidence and sense of self-worth.

Sensuality, Intimacy and the Body:

Because of its close physical connection with the pelvis area and the reproductive organs, this chakra is also the centre of the search for pleasure, whether sensual or through your daily life experiences. Abundant creativity and strongly felt intuition are two additional facets of an open sacral chakra.

An open, balanced sacral chakra allows you to experience intimacy and love freely and fully, to be honest and non-judgmental about your desires, and to live as your authentic self without fear. Someone with a balanced sacral chakra radiates warmth, confidence, and generosity.

With a balanced sacral chakra, you are open to intimacy and you can be passionate and lively. You have no problems dealing with your sexuality.

When the sacral chakra is out of balance, though, emotionally it can lead to "feelings of fear, overwhelm, depression, emotional instability, loss of creativity, and addictive behaviours." If you tend to be stiff and unemotional or have a poker face, the Sacral Chakra is under-active. You are not very approachable or open to people.

If this Chakra is overactive you tend to be emotional all the time. You will feel emotionally attached to people and can be very sexual.

Physical imbalance  in this chakra include pelvic area issues such as hip problems, kidney problems, urinary problems, lower back pain, reproductive and sexual issues such as Frigidity.

Bladder problems, Gall and Kidney Stones, Reproductive Organs, Vaginal Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Pelvic Disease, issues are – physical and material desires.

Sacral Chakra Healing And Overcoming The Challenge of Grasping

One of the main challenges for healing the sacral chakra is about maintaining balance. One can be easily taken by second chakra passions and sensations. But can you fully recognize and appreciate the experience in the moment?

It’s sometimes difficult to fully welcome the pleasure of life’s experiences and sensations and maintain balance. The attraction to the source or cause of experience has a strong pull and one may have tendency to grasp the source of pleasure. This form of attachment might get in the way of a “healthy” flow and turn into insatiable, obsessive or hoarding behaviour. To heal that type of imbalance, it becomes important to stay conscious or aware as one engages in the experience.

Sacral Chakra Healing and Severing Draining Emotional Ties

Often, people play on emotions to manipulate each other. Second chakra drains can come from imbalanced family dynamics or power plays at work or example. In relationships, a lot is communicated through emotions –happiness, sadness, joy, disappointment, etc.

When emotions are not fully expressed or expressed indirectly, such as in passive aggressive behaviours, the field might become obscured and the second chakra comes out of balance.

Healing Shame in the Second Chakra

Some of us might also feel shame and guilt around pleasure due to strict education, contradictory values, or a traumatic experience. Repressed sexuality can lead to serious imbalances in the second chakra, whether it “shuts down” or becomes overactive.

The energy of your second chakra can be shut down or blocked as a result of sexual repression, whether this movement of contraction has been influenced by the actions of someone in your life or is self-imposed. Chakra healing is important to restore a healthy image of sexuality and pleasure.

Working on trust around sex and sensuality with your partner or sharing your concerns with a trusted friend or professional could be helpful. Going step by step, starting with small experiences of pleasure might pave the way to healing wounds.

Restoring a Balanced Enjoyment of Life’s Pleasures

Healing the shame or guilt in the second chakra helps refine your appreciation of the simple of life, as well as less ordinary experiences. Instead of numbing yourself by either blocking or saturating your experience with overwhelming sensations and emotions, you may enjoy the pleasure provided in the moment in full awareness.

Emotions and the Sacral Chakra

The 2nd chakra magnetizes by the force of emotions, but also its energy that is half way between the survival preoccupations of the first or root chakra and the expression of will of the third or solar plexus chakra.

Ideas and visions can come to life more easily. As such, the second chakra magnetizes experiences based on its state and the direction provided by the other chakras. Attraction and repulsions are strongly linked to the sacral chakra.

Healing the second chakra therefore consists in being more mindful of one’s thoughts and intentions, as well as being more aware of the types of emotions arising at specific moments.

Self-inquiry

Self-inquiry is a useful tool to heal the sacral chakra. By understanding our emotions and reactions, we can better defuse the unconscious programming ruling our actions. This allows us to choose how we react and to see our emotions as useful indicators rather than being ruled by them.

Ways to rebalance and cleanse the second chakra

The sacral chakra is orange, so it's a good idea to use this shade when doing any sacral chakra work using crystals such as Tiger's eye or carnelian.

Since the sacral chakra’s element is water, getting outside and relaxing near open water can help open your second chakra. Lakes, rivers, streams or the ocean are all useful. If possible, wade in or dangle your feet in the water to help the energy flow. Taking a bath or a shower can also contribute to balancing your chakra while providing the relaxation needed to keep your emotions flowing.

Diet and Body Work for the 2nd Chakra:

·        sweet potato

·        carrots

·        melons

·        mangos

Tiger - Connects us to sensuality and passion and feelings of self-worth

Frog - symbol of prosperity and the cleansing and healing of old ways and patterns

“The skill of learning how to enter into the sensation of enjoyment is required.
To experience pleasure is one thing, but to recognize the experience as enjoyable and then enter into the felt sense of appreciation of the moment-now that is an art.” Source: David Pond. Chakras for Beginners: A Guide to Balancing Your Chakra Energies.

What do I need for a Cleansing-Chakra-Gong-Bath?

The process is simple.  Whether you listen to the gongs online, a recording or in person, using the principal of entrainment the gongs’ pure and powerful harmonics soothe and slow your busy mind into a relaxed, meditative state while their vibrations gently shake up and loosen the energy debris from around or within the chakra centres.

This vibrational detox helps to restore the natural resonance and harmony throughout your physical and non-physical body resulting in an increase of energy and a return to vitality. By focussing on one chakra at a time, each gong bath allows the energy system of each chakra to cleanse and rebalance restoring the free flow of energy and symptoms associated with previous blockages.
