What is a Sound Meditation and is it the same as a Gong Bath?

In short the answer is 'yes'. A sound meditation where the gongs are played is the same as a gong bath and sound bath.

Its often referred to as a gong bath because its like being immersed in sound while the gong vibrations seem to flow through, over, under and around you.

Its called a sound meditation because these extraordinary instruments entrain our brainwaves slowing us down into a deeply relaxed and meditative state without the need to do anything except simply sit or lie in your most comfortable position cocooned in warmth and a feeling of cosiness.

It was absolutely beautiful, thank you! Exactly what I needed.

A What Bath?! The Day I Met the Gongs

Local author, Tracey Gemmell came to her first ever gong bath earlier this year. Completely unknown to her, she was sceptical to say the least. That is, until she met the Sound-Well gongs.. after which she was inspired to write about her experience.

What effect do the gongs have?

The gong is a magical and powerful instrument. The vibration of the gong penetrates every cell of the body energising and restoring the body's natural balance and harmony. Inviting you to let go of all the noise, clutter and stress in your life they are a perfect way to relax.

The sound is abstract and unique and because the human mind is unable to associate it with anything familiar it helps us to surrender and let go.  It is in this state of release that stress melts away, worries vanish and dreams of the heart begin to be realised. There is no better way to heal. You don't need to do much, just a simple intention at the beginning and then just relax. You can even sleep if you want to. Pure bliss!

The gongs help to release toxins which is why you'll be encouraged to drink plenty of water after the experience to help flush that which no longer serves your highest good through your body quickly. For some. it can feel similar to a physical detox but for everyone, it feels different.

I came away feeling lighter, calmer and a general sense of peace.

Can everyone benefit from the gongs?

Not everyone. They're not suitable for anyone who has had major surgery within 6 weeks, is fitted with a pacemaker, suffers from fits (epileptics), or anyone who is extremely sensitive to sound. They are also not recommended for women in the first trimester of pregnancy due to the unstable nature of pregnancy during that time. If you wear a hearing aid, your device should be turned off during the session. If you have any concerns, please speak with your doctor in advance.

Sound healing is one of the oldest and most ancient forms of healing and dates back thousands of years. The sacred sounds of the gongs produce frequencies that can help resolve emotional, physical or spiritual dissonance; helping us restore balance and harmony. During a ‘Gong bath’ the gongs generate waves of sound that intersperse with and bathe our entire body – both physical and non-physical, re-aligning our cells and pressing the re-set button as it were! These powerful gongs are invaluable tools for stress reduction & personal transformation.

Alexandra is a highly experienced, sensitive and intuitive practitioner. We had never experienced a gong bath before and this was an amazing day. We came away feeling completely relaxed and “ in tune”. It is extremely healing and beautiful and we would recommend it to anyone, for any reason.
